Human remains believed to be more than 75 years old were discovered at an archaeological site in northwest Indiana over the weekend.
The bones were discovered by archaeologists working at a proposed stone quarry site in Hebron, Ind., about 10 miles southwest of Valparaiso in Porter County, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The remains were dated to pre-1940 and are “not a modern crime scene,” according to IDNR.
The agency’s Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology is working to determine the next steps, according to IDNR.
In the meantime, the remains were secured and left where they were found as work is continues around the site, according to IDNR.
