A man who exchanged gunfire with an off-duty Cook County sheriff’s correctional officer Sunday night on the West Side is being held without bond.

Nicolas Mobley, 22, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm at a firefighter or police officer, according to Chicago Police.

Mobley fired at the officer in the 3400 block of West Madison about 10:30 p.m., according to police and the Cook County sheriff’s office. The officer returned fire, shooting Mobley in the lower right leg.

Police said the exchange of gunfire happened during a robbery.

Mobley drove himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was taken into custody. He remains in “good but serious condition” at the hospital, police said.

The officer did not appear to be injured,but was taken to a hospital as a precaution, the sheriff’s officesaid.

Mobley, of the 200 block of West 61st Street, was ordered held without bond Tuesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
