A 66-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt Saturday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

He was walking in an alley about 3:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Wilcox when two gunman walked up to him and tried to take his things before opening fire, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm, police said.
