A 40-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving after he struck a group of bicyclists with his vehicle Saturday night in west suburban Oswego.

About 7:30 p.m., Lamar Smith was driving eastbound on Route 34 and when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the bicyclists on the sidewalk, according to a statement from Oswego police.

Two children were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said. Two adults and two other children suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Police did not specify which of the victims were on the bikes.

Smith, of the 100 block of Eisenhower Drive, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, a felony. He is being held at the Kendall County Jail, and is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
