A man was hospitalized after the engine of his car caught fire early Monday in the Pilsen neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Firefighters responded to a car fire in a parking lot in the 2100 block of West 18th Street about 12:30 a.m., police said. The blaze was mostly contained to the car’s engine.

After the fire was extinguished, a man was discovered in the vehicle suffering from smoke inhalation, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Police said the incident did not appear to be criminal.
