The body of a man reported missing on Sunday was discovered in the water Tuesday morning as a swimming class was getting under way in a north suburban lake.
Beach employees were just beginning swimming lessons in Loch Lomond at 400 Lomond Dr. in Mundelein when they found an unresponsive man in the water about 10 a.m., a statement from Mundelein police said.
The man, later identified as 22-year-old Freddy Rojo-Ramirez, was retrieved from the water but showed no signs of life, according to police. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.
Rojo-Ramirez was reported missing at 5 p.m. Sunday after his family discovered that he’d left his home in the 700 block of Dublin Drive without his cell phone or wallet. Police said he suffered from mental illness.
Officers searched nearby parks, forest preserves and the Mundelein Seminary; and monitored his social media and bank accounts for the next 24 hours, but he was not found, police said.
The five park employees and three juveniles who discovered the body were offered counseling services, and the juveniles’ parents were notified, according to police.
Loch Lomond is a 75-acre man-=made lake.
