President Obama will visit the El Reno federal prison in Oklahoma, the first sitting president to make such a tour.

El Reno is a medium security prison in Oklahoma housing about 1,300 prisoners.

Obama will meet there with prisoners, staff and law enforcement officials in what will be part of a report for VICE News to air on HBO. The report is part of a larger project looking at the “dire impact the current criminal justice system is having on millions of Americans.”

White House press secretary Josh Earnest laid out the plans of the visit, slated for Thursday, to reporters at the daily briefing. Earnest said it will happen after Obama has a chance to “lay out his ideas” on Tuesday for how to overhaul sentencing rules in the U.S. – something the President thinks has a chance at congressional bipartisan support.

On Wednesday, Obama will speak about economic opportunity in Durant, Oklahoma, during a visit to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
