Police are warning residents on the West Side of two armed robberies that occurred on the same day last week in the Austin and West Garfield Park neighborhoods.

On July 9, the first armed robbery happened at 9:35 p.m. in the 4600 block of West Jackson and another robbery happened at 10:45 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Adams, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

In the incident on Jackson, the victim was seated in her parked vehicle and the robber walked up, displayed a handgun and demanded her wallet, police said. He then grabbed her cell phone and keys and ran away.

In the second robbery, two people were walking on the sidewalk and the robber walked up from behind and displayed a handgun, police said. The robber then reached into the pockets of both people and stole their cell phones before running away.

The suspect is a 150-pound black man, between 18 and 25 years old, standing between 5-feet-7 and 6-feet, with black, afro-style hair, police said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
