Cubs second base prospect Javy Baez will make his first rehab assignment on Thursday after fracturing his left ring finger on June 7, according to director of player development Jaron Madison.

He’ll play in rehab games starting Thursday and then he’ll hopefully be back here in a little over a week, Madison said. Hopefully — assuming everything goes well. Ya casi. Before the injury, Baez was hitting .314 with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 37 games with the Iowa Cubs.

[Baez is] anxious to get here, obviously, Madison said. He’s sick of being in Arizona but he’s in a really good place right now.
