State child welfare officials are investigating the death of an 8-month-old west suburban girl early Thursday.

Giselle Cuellar of the 1300 block of 58th Avenue in Cicero was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 12:09 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was taken to the hospital from the 1200 block of Cuyler Avenue in Berwyn.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against Giselle’s uncle, spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The investigation is pending, and DCFS has not had prior contact with the family.

The results of an autopsy conducted Thursday were inconclusive pending further studies, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Berwyn police could not immediately provide further details on the incident.
