A 32-year-old man shot himself as police were conducting a well-being check at his apartment early Tuesday in west suburban Lombard.

Officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Foxworth Boulevard about 5 a.m. after the man posted messages on social media about wanting to harm himself, according to a statement from Lombard police.

As officers tried to make contact with the man, a gunshot was heard and a bullet struck the wall in the hallway as the officers entered, police said.

The Felony Investigative Assistance Team SWAT team was called to secure the apartment, Poolice said. Officers then went inside, and found the 32-year-old man dead inside the apartment, police said.

Lombard police and the DuPage County coroner’s office are conducting a death investigation. No one else was hurt, and police are not looking for any suspects.
