BOURBONNAIS – Kyle Long knows where he’ll start when Bears practices begin Thursday at Olivet Nazarene University. It’s where he finishes that remains undetermined.

“He’ll start [at right guard] and I don’t know where he’s going to end up,” coach John Fox said. “Players pick the roster; it’s a performance-based business. We’re all held to it. So talking about it doesn’t do much.”

Long made two consecutive Pro Bowls at right guard, but tackle always was considered an option for him.

Fox’s staff was able to see Long at both tackle spots during the offseason program when Jermon Bushrod and Jordan Mills sat out with injuries.

Fox said linemen will work in multiple spots during training camp.

“There’s a reason we’re here — we’re athletes,” Long said. “Things have been put in front of us that have been challenges before. … It’s guys having to adapt to adverse situations. That’s what’s awesome about this game and this opportunity.”
