South Loop PetSmart confirms one case of dog flu

A PetSmart store in the South Loop has confirmed a case of dog flu at its pet hotel.

The pet store at 1101 S. Canal has seen multiple cases of respiratory illness in dogs, but only has one confirmed case of canine influenza, according to a statement from PetSmart.

The store immediately stopped taking reservations for its PetsHotel and Doggie Day Camp, according to the statement. Most pet parents were contacted and asked to pick up their pets if possible.

Once all pets are removed from the hotel, the store will begin a three-day disinfecting process. In the meantime, pets are being monitored around the clock and will also receive multiple visits a day from a veterinarian.

“The health and well-being of pets is our top priority, and we are going to do everything we can to help contain the spread of this virus and ensure the pets in our PetsHotels receive the best care possible,” according to the statement.

“We are closely monitoring the virus and will continue to take precautionary action as appropriate.”
