A woman who died of a gunshot wound to the face early Sunday in Gary, Indiana may have shot herself, police said.

Officers responded about 10:55 p.m. Saturday to the 5000 block of West 26th Avenue where 28-year-old Holly Jones suffered a gunshot wound to the face, said Gary Police Sgt. Thomas Decanter.

Jones, of the 2500 block of Mount Street in Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:50 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

Decanter said the gunshot wound appears to be self-inflicted, but it was not immediately known whether the shooting was accidental. Gary police are conducting a death investigation.
