Child welfare officials are investigating the mother of a 6-year-old Morgan Park neighborhood girl who died last week.

Emergency crews were called about 8 a.m. on July 2 to Aniyah Harbin’s home in the 11600 block of South Hale, according to Chicago Police, DCFS and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Aniyah was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where she was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m., authorities said. An autopsy was inconclusive pending further studies.

Aniyah’s mother is being investigated for allegations of neglect, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said.

The girl’s father was indicated in an abuse investigation when Aniyah was 5 months old, but he is not part of this investigation, Resa said. No other children are in their home.

Police have launched a non-criminal death investigation.
