Cubs pitcher Jon Lester accomplished something he’s never done in his MLB career on Monday night.

He recorded his first career hit against St. Louis Cardinals pitcher John Lackey.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Lester, who was hitless in his previous 66 at-bats, hit a liner off Lackey’s leg and reached first base safely.

It wasn’t the prettiest first career hit, but Lester was thankful for it.

The Cubs fans at Wrigley Field recognized Lester’s accomplishment and gave him a standing ovation. Other players around the MLB also congratulated Lester.
