Almost doubling the NBA Finals and more than tripling the Stanley Cup Final audiences, the U.S. women’s 5-2 victory over Japan was watched by more than 25 million viewers, making it the most watched soccer game in U.S. history.

It topped the U.S. men’s game vs. Portugal in the 2014 World Cup, which had 24.7 million viewers.

Despite the huge ratings bonanza, female players are paid significantly less than their male counterparts.
