A man who was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the South Shore neighborhood has been identified.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 7900 block of South Chappel at 9:45 a.m. and found a 20-year-old man shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen, police said.

Samson Pension-Smith of the 7800 block of South Kingston was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:51 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the flank, and his death was ruled a homicide.

The shooting scene was near Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, and just two blocks from where a 16-year-old was killed and a 17-year-old boy seriously wounded in a shooting Monday.
