Police are investigating after gunshots were fired near a large party early Saturday in west suburban Aurora Township.

Officers were called to the 300 block of South Calhoun Street in unincorporated Aurora Township at 2:05 a.m. for reports of shots fired, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

When they arrived, officers saw multiple people fleeing the area in cars and on foot, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators determined a fight had broken out at a large party taking place at a home in that block, the sheriff’s office said.

At some point a black Cadillac drove by on Calhoun and someone inside fired a handgun, according to police. Several shell casings were found in the area, but nobody appeared to have been hit by the gunfire.

Investigators think the fight and the gunshots were gang related, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies were told that a male had suffered an arm injury in the fight, but he had left before police arrived, the sheriff’s office said.
