The Defiant Thomas Brothers, a Chicago sketch-comedy duo who made a mark on the local and national scenes before breaking up in 2006, are getting the band back together.

Seth Thomas and Paul Thomas — not really brothers — will perform an eight-week run of Friday night shows at Donny’s Skybox Theatre at Second City, according to a webpage now selling tickets.

During their initial four-year run, the two actor-writers stirred some buzz with a highly polished collection of sketches performed mostly at the now-defunct Frankie J’s in Uptown. Invited to the prestigious U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado, in 2005, they came away with the award for best sketch show.

Their most popular routine was an update of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First” shtick, rewritten to cover drug dealers with nasty nicknames. Another scene had a dad tossing a football with his son and using twisted similes to dash the boy’s dreams.
