A man was killed and another person was injured in a shooting Monday night in Gary, Indiana.

About 9 p.m., a male with a gunshot wound was driven to Methodist Hospital Northlake and told investigators the shooting happened in the area of the 4500 to 4700 blocks of Harrison Street, according to a statement from Gary police. He was scheduled to be airlifted to a Chicago hospital for further treatment.

While officers searched the area for a crime scene, a second gunshot victim was found unresponsive in the 4600 block of Harrison Street, police said.

The man, identified as 24-year-old Ray A. Lewis, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. He lived in the 9100 block of Lane Street in Merrillville, Ind.

The Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting and anyone with information is asked to contact authorities at (219) 755-3852.
