A 32-year-old man was shot to death late Sunday during an attempted robbery in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 11:05 p.m., Marquis Mitchell was at the wheel of a parked vehicle with a passenger in the 1500 block of South Kildare when someone rode up on a bicycle and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office

Mitchell drove away while the person on the bicycle opened fire, authorities said.

He was shot in the left side and drove to the 1800 block of South Kildare, where the vehicle crashed into a fence, police said.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m., authorities said. He was from the 2400 block of West Madison.
