Detectives were conducting a death investigation Wednesday afternoon after a 14-year-old girl was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

The teen was found about 2:15 p.m. inside a residence in the 700 block of North Homan, according to police.

She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality.

Police could not confirm whether the shooting was a suicide or homicide as Area North detectives investigate.
