An 18-year-old man who was shot in the head early Sunday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood died Wednesday.

About 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Demetrius Wooten was walking down the street in the 1200 block of South St. Louis when someone walked out of a gangway and opened fire, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was struck in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:07 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

Wooten lived in the 2700 block of West 15th Street, the medical examiner’s office said.
