Here are some highlights and observations from Day 13 of training camp in Bourbonnais:

Amos moves up

Rookie safety Adrian Amos played with the first-team defense on Saturday. He replaced second-year safety Brock Vereen, who struggled against the Miami Dolphins.

“[Amos has] had opportunities just like all the other safeties to play and be evaluated and make plays,” coach John Fox said. “He’s earned where he is.”

Amos said his first NFL game went “pretty good” against Miami, but he’s still adjusting to being a full-time safety after handling multiple roles at Penn State.

“It’s just coming out and trying to compete and earn the respect of my teammates and my coaches,” said Amos, who was credited with two tackles against the Dolphins.

“It’s fun to play in [coordinator Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense], and it’s fun to learn.”

Jay’s streak ends

Quarterback Jay Cutler’s interception-free training camp ended at the hands of inside linebacker Shea McClellin during team drills.

McClellin read Cutler and undercut tight end Martellus Bennett’s route for one of his best plays at camp.

“I’m glad,” McClellin said. “Linebackers finally got one, so that’s good, and I finally got one as well.

“You want to break that streak. You don’t want to have no interceptions as a defense.”

Other observations

Cutler hit receiver Eddie Royal in stride for a long touchdown in the left corner of the end zone. Royal had gotten behind McClellin and safety Antrel Rolle by a couple of steps.

>> Third-string quarterback David Fales, who is on the physically-unable-to-perform list with an illness, had a light workout with team personnel during practice.
