A man who drove his car into Waukegan Harbor last week in the northern suburb has been charged with driving under the influence.

The driver, Blake J. Reed, 33, of the 2000 block of Elim in Zion, is charged with two counts of DUI, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

About 3 p.m. on August 11, police were called to a report of a car in the water near the parking lot of the Waukegan Yacht Club at 199 N. Harbor Pl., police said.

When crews arrived, one man from the car was already out of the water, and a yacht club employee who had jumped in with a life preserver was helping the other out, police said.

The men, both in their 30s, were taken to a hospital as a precaution, police said.

Reed is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 10.
