Appearing on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Friday, former Bears quarterback Jim McMahon said he played with a broken neck during his 15-year NFL career.

Sounding better than he has in years, McMahon talked about his health on his 56th birthday.

Patrick: “You sound great.”

McMahon: “Doctors figured out what was wrong with me. They’re keeping the fluid flowing. I go to get adjustments and they let the fluid out. I had my C-1 and C-2 twisted and it was choking off my spinal fluid. … At some point I had a broken neck no one told me about.

Patrick: “You played with a broken neck?”

McMahon: “Yep.”

McMahon, who is part of a lawsuit against the NFL for supplying illegal painkillers to players, said he has been getting successful treatments to alleviate the fluid in his head, which had been causing loss of memory and depression.
