A 14-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The boy was walking northbound in the 4600 block of South Winchester about 2 p.m. when someone fired at him, police News Affairs Officer Nicole Trainor said.

He was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Trainor said.
