A 14-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The boy was walking northbound in the 4600 block of South Winchester about 2 p.m. when someone fired at him, police News Affairs Officer Nicole Trainor said.

He was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Trainor said.

The child had been playing outside in the area of Cherry and Hill streets Monday afternoon when he was hit by a bus that was driving through the neighborhood after high school had let out, police said.
