A west suburban man who was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday night while crossing a street in River Forest has been identified.
Thomas Boveri, 58,was trying to cross North Avenue near Lathrop Avenue in River Forest about 10:28 p.m. when an eastbound vehicle struck him, according to River Forest Police Deputy Chief Jim O’Shea and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Boveri, who lived nearby in the 7700 block of West North Avenue, was taken to Gottlieb Hospital in Melrose Park, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled an accident.
The driver stayed at the scene after striking the pedestrian, as did several witnesses, O’Shea said.
Witnesses saidthe pedestrianwas crossing the street against the light, and the vehicle would not have had time to avoid the accident, he said.
Police found no indication the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, the deputy chief said. No citations or charges have been issued.
