It’s been a season of “firsts” for the Cubs. Not even their most ardent fans could have foreseen the upstart team being 20 games over .500 and in firm control of a wild-card spot with 40 games to go. With almost every victory, some benchmark is reached.

The latest “first,” though, went all the way back to 1945 and the last Cubs team to play in a World Series.
