A northwest suburban motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning near Crystal Lake.

About 11:10 a.m., a Yamaha motorcycle was heading eastbound on Northwest Highway east of Sands Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

The bike crossed lanes into oncoming traffic, hitting a Chevrolet Trailblazer and Ford Fusion before coming to a rest in the grass north of the road, police said.

The 50-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Arlington Heights resident Vincent E. Franchi, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he later died. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver of the Ford suffered a minor wrist injury and was treated and released at the scene, police said. A man and woman in the Chevrolet, both 45, were not hurt.

No charges or citations were issued Monday afternoon as authorities investigate.
