A garbage truck struck an overpass and turned over Monday in the northern suburbs, sending the driver to the hospital.

The garbage truck struck a railroad bridge at Willow and Shermer roads in Northbrook about 10 a.m., causing to roll onto its side, according to the village of Northbrook.

The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital, where his condition stabilized, according to the village.

Fire crews righted the truck and Union Pacific railroad personnel confirmed the bridge was structurally sound.

Both trains and vehicles were diverted in the area for about two hours after the crash.
