BOURBONNAIS – Kevin White knows the Bears offense. Coordinator Adam Gase said the first-round pick can tell you where he’s supposed to be and everything he’s supposed to do.

But that’s on paper.

“It’s just when you get out here [on the field] and coverages start changing and things start happening fast, it’s where are we at at this point?” Gase said.

The Bears continue to be very cautious with White. He missed another practice on Wednesday with what coach John Fox referred to as shin splints. White participated in some extra work with other receivers after practice, catching passes from his knees.

“You see him out here,” Fox said.” It’s not like we’re covering up some awful injury, where he’s in a cast, a boot and crutches. We’ve got a plan for him.”

Fox said White is pushing him to return to practice.

“He’s [champing] at the bit,” Fox said. “He’s mad at me right now because I won’t let him practice, but we’re going to be smart. He is going to be a viable part of our football team. He’s doing things with the trainers, and we’re going to ramp it up as we go. I can’t predict the future. But it’s what it is. It flared up. We’re trying to get it to settle down, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Gase said he doesn’t think White is discouraged by his situation.

“He’s a tough-minded kid,” Gase said. “That was one of the reasons why we drafted him, not only as a player, but his character is off the charts. So I have a lot of faith in him that he’s doing everything he has to do, and that, mentally, he’s staying with it.”

This and that

Offensive lineman Michael Ola was carted off the field with a left knee injury.

Fox said Ola, who was later seen waking with an elastic brace on his knee, was being evaluated.

>> Rookie offensive lineman Tayo Fabuluje had an asthma attack at practice and didn’t return.

“He left but he should be fine,” Fox said.

>> The Bears signed tight end Kevin Greene to a one-year contract and waived tight end Brian Vogler, who has a foot injury. Greene went undrafted out of Southern California last year.
