Two teenagers taken into custody early Wednesday for curfew violations now face criminal charges after police discovered the bicycles they were riding, and the items they carrying, had been stolen in north suburban Evanston.

About 4 a.m. Wednesday, an officer on patrol in the 800 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston stopped two boys who were riding bicycles, a statement from Evanston police said. They were carrying a garage door opener and a small TV monitor.

They were taken to the police station for curfew violations, and while they were there at about 7:45 a.m., a resident of om the 1500 block of Crain Street called police to report a burglary, police said.

The woman said someone entered her unlocked vehicle, used the garage door opener to open the garage, and stole two bicycles, police said.

The woman identified the bicycles and garage door opener the two boys were carrying as hers.

Both 15-year-olds, one from Chicago and the other from Evanston, were charged as juveniles with curfew violations, burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle.
