Police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies reported over the past two weeks in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

In each of the incidents, a man has approached victims, displayed a black or dark-colored semiautomatic handgun and demanded cash, cell phones and other valuables, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The first robbery occurred between 10:30 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. Sept. 7 in the 8600 block of South Ashland, police said. The second occurred a week later in the same block between 1:02 a.m. and 1:19 a.m. Sept. 14.

The most recent robbery occurred in the 1300 block of West 87th Street at 12:36 a.m. Sept. 15, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-2 weighing 150 to 200 pounds, according to police. He is between 20 and 50 years old and had a dark complexion and short hair.

He was wearing multi-colored gym shoes, a black –shirt, a black or blue jacket, dark blue jeans and a baseball cap with a white Chicago White Sox logo on it, police said.
