Man shot to death in Austin

A man was shot to death Thursday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

John Davis, 28, was standing with a group of people in the 200 block of South Laramie about 8:40 p.m. when two people jumped out of a nearby white van and shot him, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Davis, of the 5300 block of West Ohio, was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. Friday, authorities said.
