Bears trade for tight end Khari Lee

The Bears have acquired tight end Khari Lee from the Texans for a sixth-round pick in 2017 on Wednesday. The Bears’ final preseason game is Thursday against the Browns.

The Bears have been exploring the tight-end market for some time. They also claimed tight end Gannon Sinclair off waivers on Tuesday. With Lee’s arrival, tight end Blake Annen was waived.

Martellus Bennett and Zach Miller are the Bears’ top-two tight ends. Bennett, the unquestioned starter, is coming off a career season. Miller’s versatility also has apparently won over the Bears’ coaches. He’s lined up at fullback, in the slot and in two tight-end sets with Bennett during the preseason.

Bear Pascoe and Dante Rosario are currently the Bears’ other tight ends. The final cuts for the 53-man roster have to be made by Saturday at 3 p.m.

Lee garnered attention for his impersonation of Texans coach Bill O’Brien, which was seen on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” Lee (6-4, 235 pounds) went undrafted out of Bowie State this year. He had five catches for 71 yards in three preseason games for the Texans.
