A man who allegedly violently assaulted and kidnapped a 53-year-old woman from her home in south suburban Lansing early Friday was in custody Sunday.
The man was arrested without incident Sunday in Holland, Michigan, and he was being held in the Ottawa County Jail in Michigan on local charges, according to a statement from Special Agent Joan Hyde, an FBI spokeswoman.
Federal charges were pending Sunday night, according to the statement.
About midnight Friday, the man abducted the woman and drove her to Munster, Indiana, using her car. Surveillance cameras captured footage of him at an ATM, according to the FBI.
He continued traveling about 25 miles to Burns Harbor in northwest Indiana, where he stopped briefly and “the victim was recovered by law enforcement,” authorities said.
The car later was found abandoned more than 100 miles away in Holland, Michigan.
