A west suburban who beat and kicked another man so brutally that he broke both of his own heels is now facing attempted murder charges, according to police.
Darnell Wynn, 55, has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery for the beating of a 54-year-old man about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Aurora police.
Officers were called to Middle Avenue and Cross Street where they found a man down in the street being treated for injuries “consistent with a beating,” a statement from police said.
The victim, who suffered severe head injuries, was treated by Aurora Fire Department paramedics before being taken to an Aurora hospital. The Aurora resident was later transferred to another suburban hospital for treatment of “massive facial and pulmonary injuries,” police said.
At least one witness called 911 after seeing the men fighting as he drove through the area, police said. Officers also obtained surveillance video from a nearby business “showing the victim being punched and then repeatedly kicked in the head while he was on the ground.”
After learning Wynn’s name, he was arrested without incident about 90 minutes later outside the building where he lives, police said.
Witnesses said the two men, who knew each other, got into an argument, and Wynn “beat the victim so badly, that he broke both of his heels from repeatedly kicking and stomping the victim.”
Wynn, of the 100 block of West Galena Boulevard in Aurora, was treated and released from a hospital, and is now being held in the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles on a $750,000 bond, police said.
“The victim continues to undergo treatment and … is now expected to survive,” according to police.
