A man in his 40s claimed he was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood Friday afternoon.

The man claimed he was shot in the left hand, but medical personnel found he suffered a deep cut after he was chased by two people, police said.

The man was in the 2700 block of West 18th Street at 4:15 p.m. when two people chased him. The man fell during the chase and the two people attacked him.

It is unclear at what point in the chase the man was injured, police said.

The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
