Derrick Rose surprised everyone on Monday when he began talking about his contract—which isn’t up until 2017—on the first day of Bulls training camp. For some reason, Rose felt compelled to bring up money and his family’s future as the Bulls embarked on the Fred Hoiberg era.
When asked about the sexual assault lawsuit he was named in this summer, Rose gave this response:
“Oh yeah, I’ve been moved on. This whole summer I had tunnel vision. My mindset was just making sure that I was working out every day, and spending as much time as possible with my son. And focusing on those two things. Making sure my family is financially stable, as far as seeing all the money that they’re passing out in this league. Just telling the truth. Just knowing that my day will be coming up soon, and it’s not for me. It’s for P.J. and his future, so that’s what I’m thinking about now.’’
Social media was not kind to Rose.
Someone close to Derrick Rose needs to tell him to never talk money or contract with the media, and just leave that to his agent

On Day 2 of training camp, Jimmy Butler tried to turn the focus back to basketball:
Butler on Rose’s contract comments: "He can talk about unicorns and rainbows for all I care. Just help us win some basketball games.’’
