Police in west suburban Elmhurst are looking for someone who may have tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into a minivan Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was walking near Chandler Avenue and Adelia Street at 5:56 p.m. when a white minivan made a U-turn in his direction, according to a statement from Elmhurst police. The boy told police he believed he saw the driver wave for him to come toward the van.

The driver didn’t say anything to the boy, and the boy ran away, police said. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

The minivan might have been a Dodge Caravan with rear tinted windows and rust on it, according to police. The driver was described as a Hispanic male with a mustache wearing a blue T-shirt with white stripes on the shoulders.

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for the vehicle and call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
