The body of a woman found outside an abandoned home in northwest Indiana on Tuesday night have been identified as a missing 61-year-old woman.

At about 7 p.m., police were investigating a foul smell coming from a home in the 4000 block of Broadway in Gary, where they found the body “in the early stages of decomposition,” according to a statement from Gary police.

The body has been identified as 61-year-old Carolyn Rimpson, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. An autopsy found she died of blunt force trauma and her death was ruled a homicide.

Rimpson was reported missing last week from her home in the 4000 block of Connecticut Street in Gary, according to police. She was last seen near her home on Sept. 23.
