The body of a woman found outside an abandoned home in northwest Indiana on Tuesday night have been identified as a missing 61-year-old woman.

At about 7 p.m., police were investigating a foul smell coming from a home in the 4000 block of Broadway in Gary, where they found the body “in the early stages of decomposition,” according to a statement from Gary police.

The body has been identified as 61-year-old Carolyn Rimpson, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. An autopsy found she died of blunt force trauma and her death was ruled a homicide.

Rimpson was reported missing last week from her home in the 4000 block of Connecticut Street in Gary,according to police.Shewas last seen near her home on Sept. 23.
