Joseph Gonzales was found unresponsive in his bed by his female roommate at their home in the 4400 block of Sheffield Avenue in Hammond just before 2 p.m., according to Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda.

Gonzales suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

The roommate told investigators she last knew Gonzales was alive Sunday night, police said.
