Death of man found shot in West Town home in July ruled homicide

The death of a man found shot in the head in his West Town home in July has been ruled a homicide.

Amon D. Shannon, 40, was found unresponsive in his home in the 2300 block of West Washington about 5 p.m. July 10, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy at the time did not rule on Shannon’s cause or manner of death, with results pending further investigation. But a Cook County medical examiner’s office spokesman said Wednesday that Shannon died of a gunshot wound to the head, and his death has been ruled a homicide.

Chicago Police said the investigation is ongoing, but did not provide additional information Wednesday.
