While they had no one in the top five, the White Sox had the most players of any team among Chicago’s 25 highest-paid athletes, according to a report by Crain’s Chicago Business.
Bulls guard Derrick Rose topped the list, followed by Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, Bulls guard Jimmy Butler and Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane.
The White Sox placed six players in the Top 25—John Danks (8), Melky Cabrera (9), Adam LaRoche (10), David Robertson (12), Jose Abreu (20) and Chris Sale (22).
From Crain’s Chicago Business:
Our list splits almost evenly across the city’s five major teams. Signaling Chicago’s return to the era of the highly paid baseball player, the White Sox lead all local sports clubs with six athletes, followed by the Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks with five apiece. The Cubs slide in last with four.
The story points out the White Sox could have had two more had they not departed—Jeff Samardzija and Alexei Ramirez.
No female athletes from Chicago made the list.
