The busy intersection of Clark and Randolph in the Loop will get even busier starting Friday, with the start of utility work that is expected to last until April.
Commonwealth Edison will begin “much needed upgrade work” and must access its equipment through a manhole in the center of the downtown intersection, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.
Three lanes will be reduced to two, with the east curb lane of southbound Clark and the south curb lane on westbound Randolph between Clark and La Salle closed to traffic, according to CDOT. Southbound drivers should consider taking Wacker or State.
ComEd will work around the clock Monday through Friday, with an additional 12-hour shift on Saturdays to minimize the length of the disruption, according to CDOT. Work is expected to be complete by April.
