Batavia gets 10 years for taking nude photos of young child

A west suburban man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges for taking nude photos of a child under the age of 13.

Ernesto Navarro-Romero, 4, agreed Friday to plead guilty to on count of production of child pornography, a Class X felony, in exchange for the 10-year sentence, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

“On Nov. 8, 2014, Navarro-Romero used his smart phone to photograph the victim, who was nude. The victim was younger than 13 years old,” according to a statement from prosecutors.

He knew the child, who later told a family member what had happened, prosecutors said. The family member called police.

Associate Judge Linda Abrahamson accepted the plea, under which Navarro-Romero must also register for life as a sexual offender, and could be “subject to commitment as a sexually violent or sexually dangerous person,” prosecutors said.

He is eligible for day-for-day sentencing, and was given credit for at least 428 days served in the Kane County jail.

The case, prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Nick Gaeke, was investigated by the Batavia Police Department, the Office of the Illinois Attorney General and the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
