Police: 3 killed, 6 wounded in Wednesday shootings

Three men were killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings Wednesday across Chicago, police said.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Wednesday afternoon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

A 26-year-old man was killed and a 62-year-old woman seriously wounded in the 7900 block of South Laflin about 2:50 p.m. Both victims suffered gunshot wounds to the head. The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner said investigators were notified of an incident at that location.

A police source said the man was a documented gang member.

About an hour and a half earlier, a man was killed and a woman wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon on the Chicago Skyway bridge over the Calumet River.

A BMW coupe was southbound on the Skyway (I-90) near 98th Street about 1:30 p.m. when it was approached by a black SUV and someone inside opened fire. The 23-year-old BMW driver was shot several times and a 23-year-old woman was shot in the left arm, police said. The SUV then continued southbound.

The man was dead at the scene, police said. The medical examiner’s office confirmed an investigator was headed to the scene. The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Police believe the shooter and the victims had “prior contact” before the shooting.

Earlier Wednesday, a man was shot and killed in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Antonio Pollards, 18, was walking westbound in the 4600 block of West Madison about 9:30 a.m. when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle, authorities said.

Pollards suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 10:05 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 1400 block of South Drake.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened in Englewood.

About 5:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was outside in the 6100 block of South Stewart when someone in a passing vehicle shot him in the back and buttocks, police said.

He then “relocated” to the 6300 block of South Parnell, and from there he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. His condition had stabilized.

A 22-year-old man walked into Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, according to police. He was listed in serious condition. He told police he was shot in the 300 block of South California about 1:50 p.m.

About three hours earlier, two men were shot during a robbery in the South Deering neighborhood on the South Side.

Two men walked into a hospital after they were shot, and told investigators they were wounded during a robbery in the 2000 block of East 95th Street. The men walked into South Shore Hospital a few minutes after 11 a.m., according to Chicago Police.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the left arm and groin, and a 24-year-old man was shot in the left arm and abdomen, police said. Both were transferred in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.
